Question often asked for system engineer and system admin positions. The question tests your knowlege of Windows 2008 advanced settings as well as knowlege of IPv4 and IPv6 protocols.
Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is an Internet Protocol version which is designed to succeed IPv4, the first implementation which is still in dominant use currently. An the key difference is that IPv6 has a vastly larger address space than IPv4.
There are couple steps needed to disable IPv6:
Step1. Open Network Connections in Control Panel --> Network and Sharing Center --> Manage network connections, and in the connection properties, uncheck the item of "Internet Protocol Version 6"
Step2. Open Regedit and add REG_DWORD key with name DisabledComponents in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/Tcpip6/Parameters path and set key value equal to ffffffff.
Step3. Reboot machine.
Now you can verify your IP settings by calling "ipconfig" command.
